For thousands of years, Indian culture has been enriched by the study of religion, literature, art, and science. It has a rich history of very diverse traditions and conveys the message of universal brotherhood and tolerance. The great literature of 'Vedas', created more than five thousand years ago by many generations of Indian sages formed the foundation of Indian culture and Hinduism.
Prominent writer, poetess, and retired professor of German language Dr. Vinita Mahajani has been attracted to Sanskrit language and Vedic study from the very beginning. Because of her strong interest in the subject, she did some research during her stay in Germany and America, in which she found the unique influence of Vedanta on the whole world. She also came across several books on Vedanta authored by international scholars and learned about the inclusion of the study of Sanskrit language and Vedopanishads in the education there. That is when she resolved to write this book to show a glimpse of Sanskrit language, Vedic culture, literature and Vedangas to today's young generation.
The author also gives information about the classification of ancient literature, sages who played a valuable role in its creation, Women in the Vedic period, their equal rights, and various gods and goddesses who were worshiped in the then societies. In the recent period, when there has been a movement for women's equality all over the world, it is a matter of pride and appreciation of the Vedic culture's high ideology of respecting women.
The scientific, subtle and deep knowledge about the truth of life told by sages in ancient times is applicable even today after thousands of years.
The author also makes a very important point, that is the confluence of knowledge and science in the philosophy of ancient Indian culture! Many of the modern time discoveries made by Western scientists were made in ancient times in India. Dr. Mahajani illustrates this by giving many examples.
At the conclusion of this book, she gives a very nice commentary on how we can spend our lives in peace and contentment by taking guidance from the precious knowledge stored in the Vedas. Dr. Mahajani has successfully carried out the difficult task of taking readers on a journey through ancient times and showing a glimpse of how this river of knowledge, Vedas, has been continuously flowing from its origin in ancient times to the present day.
For the last few years, Dr. Mahajani has done extensive, in-depth research to write on this topic. She has also worked as a radio broadcaster, dance-drama director, professor, writer, poetess, lecturer and has lived a life full of experience. Her tremendous enthusiasm, eagerness to study a completely new subject in depth and ability to quickly absorb new technology is truly remarkable! 'Overview of Eternal Flow of Veda Ganga' is the English translation of her Marathi book झलक वेदगंगेच्या प्रवाहाची (Zalak Vedagangechya Pravahachi)'. After reading this book, one gets the idea of the richness and extraordinariness of ancient Indian culture and literature. I feel like the creators of Vedas have truly blessed generations of humans by sharing their wealth of knowledge and wisdom.
I was introduced to Dr. Mahajani through a friend during an audiobook project of one of her books. Vinit who has led a very accomplished life, immediately endeared me with her loving, simple and unassuming personality.
It is my honour to introduce this book to our readers. Sanskrit language and literature have been very dear to my heart. I became interested in the language at a young age because of my mother, who is a graduate and a teacher of Sanskrit. Later on, with her guidance, I learned it formally, and got introduced to its rich literature. Reading this book makes me want to once again study the language and at least some of the vast, ancient literature composed in it, more in depth.
I hope that the readership of 'Eternal Flow of Veda Ganga' will also develop an interest in the subject after reading this book and will want to know more about the Vedopanishads.
We are extremely happy to hand over the 'Overview of Eternal Flow of Veda Ganga" to the readers. Bharatiya Samskriti is always identified with the flow of Ganga. As the Ganga brings purity to the one who takes bath, or even a sip so is the Bharatiya Samskriti. As the flow of Ganga is eternal, so is the flow of Bharatiya Samskriti. It is always new, still ever eternal.
In a song, it is very beautifully said: यह कल कल छल छल बहती क्या कहती गंगा धारा । युग युग से बहता आता यह पुण्य प्रवाह हमारा ।। This glory of Ganga keeps talking and explaining the eternal story of Bharat and its purifying Samskriti. Dr Vinita Mahajani ji has done a great research in giving us the overview of our culture through this book.
As the Government of India introduced educational reforms through New Education Policy, it became necessary to have reference books for the teachers to make their teaching Bharat Centric. This book is a great help, a resource book for the teachers.
Dr Vinita Mahajani has studied books but also has referred to various websites through which the modern man searches for the information. Sorting it and bringing what is true and essential to bring pride to everyone about their culture has been ably accomplished by this book.
Swami Vivekananda says: "The ideal, therefore, is that we must have the whole education of our country, spiritual and secular, in our own hands, and it must be on national lines, through national methods as far as practical." This book would definitely of great help to all the educationists.
As the Song says: यह अविरत तप का फल है यह राष्ट्र प्रवाह प्रबल है। शुभ संस्कृति का परिचायक भारत माँ का आँचल है। यह शाश्वत है चिरजीवन मर्यादा धर्म सहारा। let us all use this book as reference, go to the originals and live the life of Dharma as that is the bedrock of our Culture.
