Marriage is a complicated structure made up of a whole series of subjective and objective factors of a heterogeneous nature. Therefore when the question of marriage is considered, factors of importance to be taken note of are physical fitness, sexual compatibility, tempera-mental qualities and social and economic status; so that the relations between the couple may stand the strain of maladjustments.
Astrology has developed its own methods for marriage compatibility which are in vogue from times immemorial.
In this book, the learned author Mr. M. katakkar has approached the marriage and family welfare problems through palmistry. This is a novel approach worth considering in all seriousness for the simple reason that the method is direct as it requires only an examination of the palms of the couple.
Earlier chapters deal with the introductory part of palmistry such as shape and divisions of the hand, the Thumb and the Mounts, the Lines etc. Each of the items has received an exhaustive treatment. Chapter XVII deals exclusively with palmistry and family welfare. It gives methods for unravelling the mental traits, indications for birth of children, sexual urges etc., and explains how a moody and emotional personality revealed by the shape of the hand cannot mate with a partner using his or her energy for "gratificatian of lower passions only".
In the epilogue, Mr. Katakkar explains the importance of palmistry to the medical world and suggests that along with a radiologist, a heart specialist etc., we can have a specialist in palmistry also. Several case studies have been given, illustrative of the various principles discussed in the text.
Mr. Katakkar has expounded the subject of palmistry in a clear and convincing manner and the author's claim that "this is an essential book for every family" cannot be said to be exaggerated. The book deserves to be read by all those interested in palmistry, astrology and allied subjects.
