Book Description
About The Author

Dr. Ramesh K. Kushwaha holds an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He works as Sr. Engineer and Staff Specialist in the Neurology department at Michigan Medicine, the University of Michigan. Dr. Kushwaha has spent more than three decades in the trenches of Conscious and Unconscious Brain Processing research. He has worked with Dr. Howard Shevrin at the famed Ormond and Hazel Hunt Laboratory in Michigan's Psychiatry department-because the unconscious mind does not clock out, and neither does Dr. Kushwaha.

He lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He lives with his wife and has three grown-up children. He likes to think and read about mind, brain, God, and Consciousness when alone.

A deep-seated childhood passion to seek the truth about God has set the course for his career, the essence of his life, and the soul of this book.

Preface

My curiosity about God lit up in my early childhood-somewhere between folding my hands at the temple and wondering if He was actually listening. What started as a simple interest soon turned into a passion, and eventually an acute obsession. I consumed books on the subject, browsing through arguments that both convinced me to believe, not believe, and everything in between.

I was privileged to take part in research in the field of unconscious brain processes, where I discovered that science is also wrangling with the mystery of consciousness. The timeless debate between the physical universe, God, the brain, and the mind has always fascinated me.

During the years of social isolation brought on by COVID-19, the term 'Virtual' hit the headlines. This got me thinking-why not apply the concept of 'Virtual' to God and the mind? I penned an article on 'Virtual Physicalism', asserting that 'Virtual' could be a more acceptable explanation for the mind and consciousness in the scientific community, as it is cemented in the physical reality. So, I decided to apply the term 'virtual to God and the Soul.

In Chapters 2 through 5, I have provided some background information. One major point of contention that I have addressed is the ongoing controversy between science and religion. Scientists and atheists often find themselves at odds with religion, arguing that the two are incompatible. In a different light, theists believe that science and religion can peacefully coexist. However, individuals like Chris Hedges and James Lindsay have taken a different stance, claiming that both sides are mistaken.

In my opinion, both theists and new atheists are falling wide of the mark. I have defended my reasoning for why I believe that science and religion, or human nature, are different.

In this thought-provoking analysis, I propose the existence of not one, but two worlds the physical external universe and the virtual inner world. I claim that everything we experience is 'virtual', and by applying this concept, we can gain the flexibility needed to understand the complexities of the mental world.

One core point I make is that the laws of physics simply do not apply to the virtual inner world. Through writing this book, I have caught on to a unifying principle that surpasses religious experiences. It explains the miraculous healing powers of prayer and the subtle impact of faith and belief on the physical body. These attention-grabbing topics are further presented in the following chapters.

It is clear that science falls short in interpreting the phenomena of the virtual inner world, as these experiences are inherently subjective and deeply personal.

I urge that if we entertain the idea of the universe being eternal, as some religions and astrophysicists suggest, then the concept of God is no longer needed. This could potentially put an end to the long-standing debates between theists and atheists. Furthermore, it may provide answers to other questions commonly used to prove the existence of God.

In my writing, I describe the creation of the Virtual Inner World within our brains, where the real God resides for me present in all living creatures. This Pure Consciousness is required to generate awareness and phenomenal consciousness within us. It is only through our more evolved brains that humans can leverage this Pure Consciousness, a practice that mystics have been mastering for centuries. I propose that by adopting this concept, humans can find happiness in their daily lives as well.

Chapter 9, titled 'Consciousness,' may be a bit dense for some readers. If you find yourself weighed down by the theoretical aspects, feel free to skim through the basics. After all, understanding the inner workings of our minds should be an enlightening experience, not a harrowing task.

Drawing from my Indian heritage, I have incorporated examples and references from a multitude of religions. In addition to Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, I have pored over the teachings of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Taoism. I intend to offer you a global perspective on faith and belief systems.
