Undoubtedly, the traditional studies in Hindu astrology have a certain scholarly value. A great number of original texts on Hindu astrology and of their translations into the modern languages have been published by the scholars of astrology but the mere translation of the text is insufficient to understand the real meaning. We cannot establish the applicability of the principles given in the ancient classical texts if we cannot do proper research based on these principles. We have to undertake a lot of research to rediscover the secrets of original texts of Hindu astrology. Every astrologer should be research oriented and should have a scientific temper as the meaning of the classical dictums has now changed. We have to reinterpret the old texts as per today's need.
The beauty of Hindu astrology is hidden in its yogas and dasha systems. The yogas in a horoscope indicate the existence of a promise that needs dasha for its fructification. The dasha scheme is the wheel of time which translates the promise of a horoscope into an event. The presence of powerful yogas in a horoscope becomes meaningless if the proper dasha does not come in right time. That is why it is said that a weak horoscope with excellent dasha sequence is far better than a strong horoscope with poor dasha sequence. It is the role of dasha only which decides the occurence of an event. Therefore, Maharishi Parashara has given us so many dashas (general or conditional dashas) for timing an event. General dashas are the dashas that can be applied to all the horoscopes without any need for a specific condition to exist in a chart while conditional dashas are applicable to only those horoscopes, which fulfil certain conditions as per the planetary combinations in a horoscope. Majority of astrologers only use Vimshottari dasha for predictions. In some parts of the country, Ashttotari dasha is used. Astrologers of Himalayan region are using Yogini dasha and Varshaphal for predictions. Now a question arises if Vimshottari dasha can alone fulfil our requirements. If so, why has Maharishi Parashara given us so many dashas? In this regard Shri K.N. Rao says that the use of Vimshottari dasha only for predictions, as many astrologers do, is a case of astrological poverty, technical deficiency and an avoidable defect. Other dashas should be used along with Vimshottari dasha to make predictive techniques meaningful and effective. Any specific law or rule given by the Maharishi Parashara for a specific horoscope has to be applied if we want to improve our predictive ability or make the analysis scientific. To understand a law, one has to study number of various phenomena, one has to study the interrelation between them, for the law is never separate from the phenomena. Keeping this fact in mind and being a science postgraduate, I planned to write this book as I have seen scientific basis behind the principles given by our sages. Our sages formulated these principles based on their studies and observations. They were the real scientists of their eras. Now this is our duty to do research on these principles like we do experiments in a science laboratory based on the principles given by scientists.
This is the second book on conditional dashas of Maharishi Parashara. Shri Manoj Pathak under the guidance of Shri K.Ν. Rao has published first research on a conditional dasha. As far as the utility of Parashara's conditional dashas are concerned, no research work has been published on the subject by the scholars of astrology before the publication of Shri Manoj Pathak's book "Predicting through Dwisaptati Sama Dasha". His book is a landmark in the field of timing of events and opens new vistas for further researches in other conditional dashas. Shri Pathak has inspired me to write a book on Chatursheeti Sama Dasha, a conditional dasha of Maharishi Parashara. The Chatursheeti Sama dasha will be applicable to all those horoscopes in which tenth lord is placed in the tenth house. The Maharishi Parashara, the father of Hindu astrology gave us this dasha and many more. I am only a student who experimented on it in the researches, individual and collective being done in the Institute of Astrology, Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, New Delhi under the guidance of Shri K.N. Rao.
It is for readers to judge the quality, utility and clarity of this research being presented here in this book.
