From outer churning to inner awakening from seeking tearsers to discovering the self
I have always been intrigued by Holy Scriptures and the invisible forces in the cosmos. I truly believe that scriptures hold a vast reservoir of knowledge for us to tap into, to learn, to evolve and to experience higher levels of human consciousness. The wildly illogical elements of stories mentioned in the Holy Puranas make them unacceptable to a rational mind and compel one to seek hidden meanings behind the story and symbols used in them. Just as we read a Panchtantra tale to children, we do not comprehend the story at a literal level, but using our intelligence and power of discrimination, we simply focus on the moral of the story. Similarly, even the Puranic stories also convey deep philosophical doctrines and cosmic truths. We simply need to catch them! The book Puranas Enlightenment Through Samudra Manthan- looks at the Reimagined: Attaining popular tale of Samudra Manthan included in the Bhagwad Purana and other Puranas with a new lens. It presents a fresh interpretation of the story with a Spiritual and Yogic point of view. It comprehends the story as an evolution of higher mental and spiritual faculties that are latent in every human being. The book draws a relationship between the traditional folklore and Yoga Siddhis mentioned by the great sage, Shri Patanjali. The story is further interpreted as a path to achieve Illumination or Enlightenment through yogic practices. The book upholds due respect for popular beliefs. It proposes an allegory between the story and the well-accepted phenomena of the energy body, the human aura or the pranamaya kosh of a human being. Truth exists at many levels. For an infant, the human body is made up of a face, legs, hands and a torso. For an eight-year-old child, the human body is also made up of multiple organs, bones, arteries, veins and blood. For a twelve-year-old child, the human body is very complex. It comprises organ systems, glands, tissues and more. An Ayurveda practitioner recognizes the presence of additional five natural elements air, water, earth, fire and space (emptiness) and three doshas-Vata, Pitta and Kapha. For someone who is spiritually minded, the human body is made up of seven body sheaths-physical body, invisible physical or etheric body, astral body, mental body, causal body, buddhic body and aatmic body or Divine body. One level of truth does not make the other level of truth invalid. The interpretation of the truth totally depends on the nature and intellectual level of the mind of an individual. Only highly developed minds can comprehend truths in their original state of existence. In our busy and hectic lives, the innate human tendency of self-discovery (the true purpose of religion and spirituality) is generally ignored and, somewhat, pushed back to a corner. We often read Holy books only on auspicious days, fumigate them with diyas and incenses and return them to the bookshelf. The purpose of writing this book is to create awareness and to kindle a desire to study, ponder and discover deeper meanings of symbols in the Puranic Stories, which show the way to Enlightenment and Truth and, thereby, boost respect for our religious and spiritual heritage.
