Ayurveda is a holistic, divine & complete life science practised by ancient Aryans. It is the science of life providing complete knowledge for long & healthy life.
The earliest literature on medical practice appeared during the Vedic period in India. The Susruta Samhita & the Charaka Samhita, the encyclopaedias of medicine compiled from various sources, are among the basic foundational works of Ayurveda.
The aim of Ayurveda is to provide a quality life to the humans through maintaining the integrity of health & curing diseases. Hence much emphasis has been laid on the preventive aspect of the diseases. Practitioners of Ayurveda have developed a number of medicinal preparations for the treatment of various ailments. Rasashastra & Bhaisajya kalpana are important branches of Ayurveda which mainly deals with metals, minerals & preparation of medicines.
'Indian alchemy' is connected with 'Rasashastra' & 'Bhaisajya Kalpana' deals with ancient method of medicine preparation. Rasashstra aims with Dhatuvada (conversion of lower/cheaper metal to higher metal) & Dehavada (treating the ailments of human body). In ancient time, there has been significant importance of herbal & mineral drugs, which can be used both for treatment as well as Dhatuvada.
This work is a courteous attempt to put forward some mportant (both theoretical & practical point of view) aspects of Rasashastra & Bhaisajya kalpana which are helpful for both UG PG students, hoping it will help students appearing entrance examinations.
