Ayurveda, the eternal science of life, possesses a rich pharmacopeia in which Rasashastra occupies a place of special importance. The classical herbomineral formulations described in this branch represent a remarkable synthesis of pharmaceutical skill, therapeutic precision, and clinical wisdom. Over centuries, these formulations have been employed in a wide range of disorders and continue to hold relevance in present-day Ayurvedic practice.
The idea behind this book arose from the need for a systematic, student-friendly, and academically oriented presentation of important classical formulations that are frequently encountered in the curriculum and in practice. While the original references remain dispersed across various classical texts, students and young scholars often require a consolidated source that presents these formulations in a clear and organized manner. This work is an effort in that direction.
In the present volume, selected formulations have been discussed chapter-wise with emphasis on classical references, composition, preparation, properties, indications, dosage and therapeutic utility, along with relevant contemporary viewpoints wherever necessary. Care has been taken to preserve the spirit of the classics while presenting the material in a manner suited to modern academic requirements.
This book is primarily intended for students of Ayurveda, teachers, research scholars, and practitioners, but it may also prove useful to all those interested in the applied understanding of Rasashastra. We do not claim perfection in this work. Rather, we place it before the learned fraternity with humility, hoping that it will contribute in some measure to the study and propagation of authentic Ayurvedic knowledge.
