As human beings, we remember so many things. We remember our happy times and also times of sorrow. We remember our worthy actions and actions that brought regret. We remember our loved ones and even strangers who in a passing moment showed us something about life. We just cannot live without remembering. Since this is the case, why not remember the things that uplift us, that allow us to contribute our best to the world?
In this inspired collection of informal talks, Gurumayi Chidvilasananda draws our attention to the great things in our lives that are worth remembering. She reminds us of our own innate goodness, of our worthiness to give and receive love, of the extraordinary blessings that flow through our lives like joyous streams rushing toward the ocean in spring-time. This book is like a japa mala, a set of rosary beads. It holds the power of remembrance for what is beautiful and sacred in our lives.
People say that when they inhale the fragrance of jasmine flowers, it transports them to a beautiful realm, a place like Gurudev Siddha Peeth, the mother ashram of Siddha Yoga meditation. There in the abundant gardens, the scent of jasmine fills the air with its intoxication. This book is like that. It transports us to remembrance of the highest.
The talks in this collection were given during the Siddha Yoga meditation retreat at Shree Muktananda Ashram in the summer of 1997. The first two talks are from the Guru Purnima weekend, the time of the full moon in July, when the supreme principle of grace, the Guru, is honored. The third talk was given on Rakhi Day, the day of protection celebrated during the full moon in August. The final talk, given on the new moon of September, honors the fiftieth anniversary of Swami Muktananda's divya diksha, the day he was initiated by his Guru, Bhagawan Nityananda.
Many, many people who were present in the Shakti Mandap, the great hall of Shree Muktananda Ashram, when Gurumayi gave these talks have asked that they be published.
Many others who heard about them have expressed the same yearning. To honor these requests, and on behalf of readers who are meeting these words for the first time, we are extremely happy to be able to make such historic talks avail-able in printed form. They have already changed many lives for the better and will surely continue to do so. May you receive from these words, each time you read them, exactly what you need.
