Archives have been set up by various kinds of organisations in both the public and the private sectors as well as by non-governmental organisations. Universities and private libraries have begun to pay special attention to maintenance of archives and the variety of documents they include. This growth of archives has necessarily been accompanied with an enhanced need and interest in conservation and preservation of archival materials as well as the development of techniques and technology of conservation and digitisation of such materials. It is, therefore, appropriate that the record keepers and personnel entrusted with the task of maintenance of records should have an up-to-date knowledge of scientific storage and preservation, including the best practices, for the care of records.
