Book Description
About the Book
A valiant freedom fighter wrestling to free his people; a mighty Empire ready to crush him under iron heel; a fight which would serve as the first resistance. In 1800s, the British establish their foothold in India. Their divisive policies lead to unrest and violence and the masses suffer as the wealth dries up in the arteries of the nation. The Ramoshis, a forest dwelling warrior clan in Maharashtra, lose their livelihood and land as they are forced to abandon their homes and flee. These testing times serve to mould hotheaded and defiant Umaji Naik, the head of the Ramoshis. A skilled warrior and brilliant strategist, Umaji becomes a formidable foe and a significant threat to the establishment. The British forces gear up to capture and punish Umaji. Despite the odds stacked against him, Umaji and his comrades put up one of the greatest resistances in the history of the nation. However, in this fight against the British Empire, the valiant Umaji Naik faces treachery and betrayal.

Preface
The idea of this book came to me purely through serendipity. While gearing up to enter the all India contest for the PM-YUVA Scheme, I was contemplating on the topic to write upon, while searching through the Internet I stumbled across the name, Umaji Naik. On diving further another term which kept popping up was 'Adyakrantiveer' which translates to the first revolutionary. This idea of a rebellion so early in the history fascinated me. And as I kept reading materials regarding this struggle I came to respect the contribution of those great warriors.

Prologue
In all mythological tales from across the world, from different cultures and timelines, the demon came from hell beneath us, to take what was ours, to defeat us, and to exploit us. But in reality the demons came from the ocean. They arrived, surging through the endless sea, covering unimaginable distances They came on big ships, carrying advanced weapons and a veil concealing their true intentions. They came as traders and ended up being statesmen. Through the course of time, they were given many names, from foreigners to invaders to rulers and then oppressors. They didn't use any of these names; no, we gave them these names. They used a different one, a name that brought about a very dark period in the history of this great land and left a scar for generations to remember.
