Book Description
Preface
The book, in hand, a collection of articles of the 'Sikh Martyrs of Eighteenth Century', is a compilation of fourteen articles. This book contains articles on the martyrs from Baba Banda Singh Bahadur to Bhai Gurbax Singh. When I was writing the book namely, 'Five Historical Biographies' which was published in 2009 and while I was reading and writing for the text of the book in hand, it occurred to me that in the previous book I had included only generals of the eighteenth century in detail and so, I thought of writing the next book exclusively on the martyrs of that century. When I read about the life and deeds of Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, Baba Ala Singh, Baba Baghel Singh, Baba Deep Singh Shaheed and Sardar Jassa Singh Ramgarhia, I happen to read a lot about Sikh martyrs. But due to my pre-occupations at the college as well as at home, I could not write this book at that time. Then a two-day national level seminar was organised at Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College in 2013. I also edited the book namely, "The Concept of Sikh Martyrdom and Tradition' based on that seminar. That book did not cover all martyrs of the eighteenth century, so it struck my mind that a book must be written on all the martyrs of the eighteenth century. In 2013, I got busy in proofreading and other publishing works related to another book, 'Sikh History and Ideology' that was almost ready for publication. Then in 2014, I thought of sitting down seriously to pursue the task that came into my mind.f

Foreword
It is generally said that the Sikhs are the ones who have created history but have not written or preserved it. Much of what we have, can be derived from the works of non-Sikh writers. A larger part of our own written literature was either swept away in the Sarsa river at the time of leaving Anandpur Sahib or was lost in the turbulent times (1716-1764) full of hardships i.e., small and major holocausts. The Muslim writers continually wrote the historical events and presented it from a biased point of view. Even the writers penning down in Hindi or English have not been able to present our history with the intensity depicting fearlessness with which Sikh history should have been written. Some important works have been written by the Sikh historians in the last century and this effort is still going on. Dr. Harbans Kaur Sagoo is also a beautiful bead of the same rosary who has dedicated her pen to the Sikh history. Even after retiring from the post of Vice Principal of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College, a reputed and known college of Delhi University, she is engaged continuously in writing. "Eighteenth Century Sikh Martyrs" (From Baba Banda Singh Bahadur to Baba Gurbax Singh Martyr) is his 15th book which she dedicates into the fold of Sikh history.
