Science has enabled man to perform miracles. But inspite of his progress in this field, man is helpless in the hands of illness and death. Even modern medical science has failed to root out diseases. Medicine can relieve our suffering. and cure us from some ailments, but there is no remedy to prevent natural or premature death.
As per the World Health Organisation, the definition of human health is physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Only if there is balance between the physical, mental, emotional, moral and spiritual dimensions of a man, will he enjoy fitness of mind and body. In the modern age, man is running after materialistic things. But these often come at the cost of his health. Thousands of diseases and disorders have become common today because of disorderly thoughts, wrong actions, lack of exercise, wrong food habits, faulty way of living and wayward behaviour. These individual problems can be corrected and one can keep their body fit and enjoy a long life by following the recommended yogasans and diet according to their body condition. One must make a determined effort to amend wrong habits and practice positive thinking.
The 21st century is often described as the age of anxiety and stress. Modern man is constantly facing symbolic tension. This pressure and strain of daily life affects one's body organs through several psycho-physical ailments. These psycho-somatic diseases can be corrected by the practice of yoga.
In today's fast paced life, the ordinary man wants to get cured of his disease as quickly as he can. The modern trend is to turn to medicines the moment one falls ill. Very little thought is given to the side effects many of these medicines may have. But the alternate therapies, such as yoga or naturopathy, are free from any ill affects.
Medical treatment has now become so expensive that most people all over the world can not afford it. Yoga on the other hand does not involve any expense, and can be practiced on one's own at home. In fact, certain diseases which are incurable through the modern medicinal system, can be definitely cured through yoga.
Yoga is a science. In order to obtain the fullest benefit from it, one must practice it in a proper way. If the asanas, pranayamas, bandhas and mudras are not done according to the established methods it will become merely an exercise and will not give satisfactory results. It is advised that one should do yoga only as much as one can, according to the limits of his or her body. To start, practice only a few simple asanas during the first week, then gradually progress to more difficult asanas.
My aim is to help you to remain in good health, by practice of yoga and pranayama, so that you do not have to spend unnecessary amount on medicines and may save yourself the trouble of running after doctors. Understand and practice yoga: it is the best and surest way to cure any disease and to lead a happy, healthy life.
