Feminism in a burning issue where there is inclusion of several aspects related to women. Nature has created male and female providing same potential without any discrimination. But our society have a narrow attitude towards women resulting in their harassment, exploitation and several such issues. This book is an attempt to bring into light all such issues and also to change the mindset of men and women who have internalized the values of patriarchal society. Sometimes women have proved to be better than men in emotional and managerial aspects of life. Actually, women can perform better or at least equal to men, if they are provided with the same opportunities and rights as men. Although it is a social issue, but it is also included in applied ethics. The author is advocating to provide a reasonable and fair status to women in society. The author, Jyoti Mala, has tried to discuss several topics regarding feminism and evaluated them in the light of her own thoughts. She has tried to clarify the negative and positive aspects of feminism related problems. Actually, she has attempted to present the hidden, traditional problems faced by women in today's time so that necessary acts and legislations are passed by the legislature. Alongwith being a work of interest for academicians, scholars and social activists, this book, I believe, will be of interest to any general reader interested in feminism.
Some Reflections on Feminism, the first book of Jyoti Mala, is a book of contemporary relevance. It deals with hot topics like abortion, female foeticide, surrogate motherhood, marital rape and sexual harassment at workplace. Some of them have figured in parliamentary discussions and have also gone to the highest court of the country. Laws have been enacted on some of them by the Indian Parliament, and they have been widely discussed in the media as well. The author has meticulously collected valuable information on all the selected topics. She has also made some comments on them from a feminist perspective. The presentation is simple and quite thought provoking. This book will prove useful for the students and scholars of philosophy as well as for general readers interested in the subject.
