This book entitled Spiritual Morsels by my childhood friend Rosalind Vanneisangi, although not much in terms of pages is a truly weighty one in terms of its contents. I find the author's use of her everyday life experiences in bringing out deep spiritual lessons very engaging and enlightening. Moreover, the nature of the brief articles makes it a book that is hard to keep down once you pick it up. All in all, it is a book that refreshes and enlivens the soul and compels one to realize the spiritual lessons that are to be learnt from each and every step of our lives.
Rosalind Vanneisangi is a teacher by profession and a mother to a seven year old daughter. This debut book, Spiritual Morsels is a collection of reflections, insights and devotion born out of her personal journey with God through the Church and through everyday life experiences.
She lives with her husband, daughter and other family members at Haflong, a beautiful town of Assam, Northeast India and is a member of the Presbyterian Church of India, Haflong.
With Great Joy and Enthusiasm, I started working on this book a few years back. With the grace of God, it is finally being published. Glory and honour to the Father in Heaven! Through this book, I would like to take the opportunity to extend my gratitude to all who have contributed to my spiritual wellbeing in many ways. I would like to especially thank my Sunday school teachers who guided me right from a young age and to the Church who nurtured me as I grew with age. My special thanks to the youth branch of our Church, the PYF for giving me the responsibility of looking after our Church newsletter when I was a PYF member. This exposure honed me and cultivated my interest in writing.
My acknowledgement would be incomplete without mentioning my family, both before marriage and after marriage. They are my strength and my backbone. My heartfelt gratitude especially to my husband and my daughter for all the love.
My profound gratitude to Rev. Lalchawiliana Varte, Rev. Rolianthanga and Dr. Mary Lalhrilmawi for the valuable inputs.
I am also indebted to Mr. Sudhanshu Kanda who graciously consented and took the responsibility of publishing my humble book with great zeal and enthusiasm.
God's Word works in us in mysterious ways. But in whatever way it may inspire or challenge us, it always helps us grow towards Him. These articles are a collection of the various articles I had written down the years and published in our Church newsletter, Ephphatha and some unpublished. I pray that all readers may be blessed.
In the bustling uncertainties of life, people hardly find time to meditate upon the word of God and yet it is the need of every person to face life's challenges blowing like a ghastly wind. Our minds are occupied by the sound of cries inflicted by ethnic clashes, wars and all sorts of unprecedented things happening in and around us. Amidst all these, there are also people who are ignorant about the crackle sound and just lullaby themselves or delve into music that does not make any sense. On the other hand. there are people who sink into the depth of modern science and technology and pay little heed to all their surroundings. Whatever may be the case, these are all signs of an empty spiritual life or barrenness.
Spiritual Morsels is the right receptacle or palatable for hungry and empty souls. It will provide nutrients with a balanced proportion of ingredients and make it a desirable taste and easy for digestion. Spiritual Morsels deals with a suitable and relevant topic beginning with peace which is the need of the hour for every heavy heart. The Hebrew word Shalom which is translated as Peace can be used idiomatically to mean 'Hello.' Therefore, 'Hello' to everyone who feel empty and hungry, who need to fill their emptiness with God. Only God can fill up the gaps of the emptiness of life and I could see that the youth of today bluntly try to sync themselves with the rising modern technologies without realising the consequences for their personal spiritual life. In the process of attempting to sync with the fast changing trend, they find it hard to adjust themselves with their personal life and gradually lack their self-esteem and thereby resulting in disrespectful manner and ultimately move on to different negative thoughts. For such kind of people, Spritual Morsels, I believe will rekindle their personal values and create an opportunity to re-examine themselves and to come back and streamline their personal lives with the normal Christian Life.
Further, reading Spiritual Morsels will also strengthen their personal spiritual life as it deals with some Bible truths in the form of simple sermons as well as lessons from Bible figures that can be understood even by an adolescent yet with a powerful message.
There are also some lessons shared from the author's personal experiences which people very often encounter in their personal life yet fail to overcome by themselves. The writer, who has been born and brought up in a devoted and committed Christian family has her own way of dealing with certain life's challenges and overcoming with the help of the Holy Spirit and by pondering and reflecting from Scripture.
There are also times when we feel as if our prayers are not answered and feel disdained without thinking of our own shortcoming and weaknesses. I am sure that reading Spiritual Morsels will regain, revive, strengthen people who are weak, weary and even decrepit people due to the habit of remaining too long without knowing God, without reading the Bible and have almost forgotten to pray. May God's abundant blessings be upon those who read Spiritual Morsels and bring back those who are at the verge of side tracking from the track of spiritual life.
