Preface
Comparative Religion is comparatively a new branch of the Philosophy of Religion. It has a wider scope for study and research as it covers the area of vast study material of major religions of the world. The available books in this area are not sufficient and concise and comprehensive books are required. The aim or ideal of writing this book is twofold to present comprehensive informa-tion and knowledge about the important dogmas and concepts of the major religions of the world and to pave the path for religious dialogue and create atmosphere for religious harmony. Religious dialogue requires understanding of religious dogmas prevalent in different religions. Without knowing and having clear concepts of other religions as well as of our own religion we can not be found fit to participate in religious dialogue. We must be free from prejudices and our own postulates while discussing the religious problems. We should have scientific and rational approach while peeping into religious problems. It is hoped that this book will be found attempting in this direction. The aim and ideal of this book consists in providing information about religious concepts of different religions and rational interpretations of different aspects of religious concepts. Our job becomes easy when we try to understand and interpret concepts keeping in mind the similar concepts of other religions. Thus comparative study of religions becomes useful in actualising the ideal of creating atmosphere for religious harmony. In this book, problems and major issues of Comparative Religion have been discussed in the manner that the reader becomes aware with the concepts of major religions on the one hand and he becomes able to compare them on the other hand. Interpretations of thoughts carry rational and critical approach. It is hoped that this book will be equally useful for a sincere student of Comparative Religion as well as for the researcher in this area.
