have known Shri Deepak Kumar since last twenty years. Since
1 first met 1 him I have always been fascinated by his engaging wit, his
disarming smile and more than anything, his analytical mind. Professionally, he
is a versatile genius. First and foremost, he is a well known journalist and
author who has written more than 4,000 article and many books, In addition, he
is a respected private investigator who has solved many difficult cases. He is
also a psephologist. As a psephologist, he has conducted large number of
election surveys, commissioned by various political parties and organisations.
In addition, he has also worked as Counsellor to large number of industrial
groups providing them with extensive help and support. One aspect which is
common to all his pursuits and is instrumental in his success is his attention
to details and his analytical and research skills. He has now brought his
unparalleled skills to a subject which requires such sharp analysis. Netaji
Subhas Chandra Bose is one of India's greatest leaders and a revered freedom
fighter. His creation of Azad Hind Fauz or Indian National Army to take on the
British during Second World War was a historical event. It forced the World to
take note of the Indian public disenchantment against British rule which
finally culiminated in Indian independence. Netaji's alleged death in a plane
crash has given rise to many controversies. It has generated questions that
remain unanswered even today. Though there have been many Commissions,
Committees and other efforts on the part of both governments as well as
individuals to unravel the mystery surrounding Netaji's death in the plane
crash, the issue remains alive. Did Netaji die in the plane crash in August 1945
or was it just a camouflage? If he did not die in the plane crash, what
happened to him? There are so many conflicting views, that despite the passage
of time and various reports on this subject, there is still no clarity. Deepak
Kumar has been interested to understand and find an answer to this issue for
quite some time. In pursuit of this sim, he undertook extensive research on the
life and times of Netaji in general and on the timeline of his activities in
last days leading to the plane crash in particular. His research took him to
various parts of the world including to Moscow, Washington, Bangkok, Phnom Penh
and London. He also had wide ranging discussions with the sources in Moscow and
Omsk. All these research and extensive discussions he had has now resulted in
this extremely well researched book. The book sheds interesting insight into
geopolitical developments of the forties in Asia with extensively researched
data on the role of Japan and the formation of INA. It also provides details of
Netaji's activities prior to his taking leadership of INA. Most illuminating
are the details of Netaji's activities immediately prior to the alleged fatal
plane crash. After going through the book and the research undertaken by the
author, I am sure the readers will definitely like to have more information on this
intriguing saga. For anybody interested in India's independence struggle and
the role of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in the same, this book is a useful
addition to the knowledge base on the subject and a must read. I am sure
readers will benefit immensely by reading this well researched book and will
get fresh insights to the role of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and INA in Indian
independence struggle.
