At the outset, let me invoke the blessings of Vighnaharta, Shree Ganesha-conqueror of obstacles.
Many of us have heard of the mythical 'Nagamani-the M crest jewel of a serpent that keeps the path always illuminated even when the snake slithers into dark caves. The gem is said to heal the sick and the wounded. My previous books, Life-An Odyssey, Time-tested Mantras Providing Solutions to Life's Problems and DRISHTI-An Insight for Soul Enrichment are the 'Nagamanis' to all the souls whenever the darkness of life engulfs them. My offering in the form of SUTRAS: The Power to Unscrew is another 'Nagamani to enlighten the reader on the journey ahead. As you embark on the journey of life, remember that you are never alone. Your journey is always connected with all those around you, with all those whom you know, with all those whom you will meet in future, and even whom you will never know or meet. At all times, the connect with the Almighty always exists. All the connects are through the invisible SUTRAS or threads that bind us to each other, and to the Divine Force. Your important mission of life is to identify those threads that connect us. This will not only give, but will enhance the meaning of your life. If those threads are weak, you should strengthen them, so that the connect with society and the Almighty becomes stronger with time. SUTRAS is an endeavour in that direction. SUTRAS is also a way where you will learn the art of sorting out personal, professional and spiritual aspects of life. SUTRAS will unscrew you from the mess, the disconnect you may have with yourself and/or with others, and make you more connected and blissfully aware of your own Self.
An old jungle saying, "By the time you see a tiger once, the tiger has already seen you a hundred times" is so apt. You feel you are unseen as your unawareness is unreal. Shri Krishna says, "The unreal has no existence and that which is real never ceases to be." So even if you are not aware of the Divine Force, it is always present, always observing you. Not only the Divine Force, even you are always observing yourself, your consciousness is always observing you. You are a witness to yourself. Isha Upanishad, 15-16 mentions, "The door of the Truth is covered by a golden disc. Open it, O Nourisher, so that I who have been worshipping the Truth may behold it. I would see, through your grace, that form of yours which is the fairest. He, that person who dwells there is I myself." Remember always that under the fear, under the despair, under the broken-heartedness, there is a radiance that has never been harmed, that has never been lost, that is the truth of who really you are. Buddha says, "Awake. Be the witness of your thoughts. You are what observes, not what you observe."
"All hearts throb with a similar beat Whether you're on a hilltop or on the street."
This was beautifully penned by W.H. Davies. Yes, we are part of one family-Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam. All of us are in synchrony with each other. The 'SUTRAS' or 'threads' that bind us together are an example of the Universal Principle or what Ramana Maharshi called 'Samasthtighat Chetna' or Collective Consciousness. There is a singular streak of Consciousness that runs in all beings, as aptly depicted in the movie, Avatar. All of us can experience the Supreme Consciousness as well as Universal Empathy or Synchronicity in daily life, if we pay close attention. As rightly said by Osho, "It is just like somebody is playing beautiful music and a great desire arises in you to dance. It is not caused by the music, it is parallel response in you. Something that was fast asleep in you the energy to dance - has been hit, not caused, just provoked, inspired. It is synchronicity."
When you start experiencing miraculous coincidences, you begin experiencing synchronicity. Daily prayers, meditation, introspection, self-inquiry and reading sacred literatures, help us be aware of the synchronicity that pervades the Universe. In spirit, we all are one and though we feel we are individuals, inherently, we are all synchronised by the 'SUTRAS', with each other. "As above, so below, as below, so above"-this principle embodies the truth that there is always a 'interconnectedness berween all that exists in the Universe. The synchronicity can be especially experienced when you hear, think, read, talk and know, what is auspicious. Synchronicity leads to a tremendous increase in awareness of wisdom and love in your heart, where you become one with another. I proclaim this as, I in You, You in Me, an essence of the African 'Ubuntu' principle, which emphasises humanness, collectivism and togetherness. You are naturally attracted to one another as human beings, which is physical, and deep down naturally, you feel connected to one another, which is spiritual.
Abdu'l-Baha says, "The endless universe is like the human body... all its parts are connected one with another and are linked together in perfection... they mutually assist, reinforce and influence each other, so too are the parts and members of this universe connected with, and spiritually and materially influenced by one another." So what stops you from accepting the other as part of you is your own barriers. You create barriers where there are none. The 'SUTRAS' or threads that binds us to each other are real, though invisible. We all are unified at the highest level of the Divine Power, the Supreme Consciousness, which flows through us all. Let that Divine Consciousness flow freely from you to others and from others to you. James R. Lowell reminded us, "Console yourself, dear man and brother, whatever else you may be sure of, be sure at least of this, that you are dreadfully like other people. Human nature has a much greater genius for sameness than for originality, or the world would be at a sad pass shortly."
