While translating the original Bengali book, Thakurbarir Katha', I was richly captured by the atmosphere of its racy mixture of absorbing gaiety and responsibility with a buoyancy of joie de vivre to portray a modest smile of excellence through a colourful array of their characters. This great House of the Tagores develops an intense love for the mankind to regenerate a cosmopolitanism of culture and accelerates the wheels of our glory for the federation of mankind at the lofty dome of joy. This unputdownable House at Jorasanko, withstanding all the tardy-gaited nights of dangers and hardships, imparts to the young generation to seek the truth, to search for freedom of enquiry, to establish in them a compelling desire to live greatly and magnanimously, to ask what they must do, to say what they think, to give them the knowledge and awareness, to see and enjoy what they believe, and to inform the people what is going on throughout the world. The main aim of this House at Jorasanko is the establishment of the worship of men.
Being a virtuoso of letters equipped with a richly satisfying mark of distinctive qualities, Dr. Hironmoy Banerjee, I.C.S., former Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University, Calcutta, entrusted me to translate his book 'Thakurbarir Katha' into English. His contributions to the welfare of Bengal are known to all and sundry. Being a beloved student of Dr. Banerjee, I was attracted by his fine-grained personality and by his charismatic administrator as a civilian during the pre-and post-independence decades of India. His untiring efforts inspired me much in translating this book.
I am grateful to pay my respect, confidence and affection to a great civilian, educationist, author, critic, etc. After his death, he still earns an accolade from the four corners of Bengal. I am also grateful to his family members to complete this work.
