Book Description
From the Jacket
The experience and knowledge from our past are recorded in manuscripts which have been handed down to us over several thousand years. The Government of India, through the Department of Culture, took note of the importance of this vast tangible heritage and, in order to preserve and conserve as well as to make access to this wealth easy, established the National Mission of Manuscripts (NMM). In order to disseminate the knowledge content of manuscripts, the Mission has taken up several programmes such as lectures, seminars, and workshops. The Mission publishes the proceedings of the above said programmes under the following series: "Samrakṣika" (on manuscript conservation). "Tattvabodha" (comprising lectures based on manuscripts delivered by eminent scholars), "Samikşikā" (research oriented papers presented in the seminars), and "Krtibodha" (transcribed and edited texts. prepared at advanced level manuscriptology workshop conducted by NMM).

NMM has taken up a project for publishing rare and unpublished manuscripts in three forms (a) facsimile, (b) critical edition with annotation, and (c) critical edition with translation. This series has been named as Prakāsīkā.

Prakäsikä-49 is the Hindi translation of Terah Masa of Akram Qutubi which has already been published by the Mission under its Prakāsīkā series.

About the Book
Terah Masa, composed in 1725 by Akram Qutubi of Rohtak, Haryana, is a rare manuscript of the classical North Indian Urdu poetry tradition after Bikat Kahani, written by Mohammad Afzal in 1625 but its available copy of the manuscript was calligraphed in 1724. The rare text of Terah Masa in hand was calligraphed during the life time of the poet. In fact, this text is the oldest and unpublished manuscript belonging to this period so far.

It is a narrative love poetry, depicting the feelings and emotions of a lady whose lover is staying away in a distant place. The changing sensuous expression is effected by the climatic conditions of different seasons of the year. This is the core theme of the text, which is a refined narrative of social and cultural ethos of Indian society.
