Acharya Charaka had stressed on the importance of Bheshaja and its logical application in treating the disease and to restore the health. The drug which is judiciously utilised will bring the Arogya (health) and one who relieves the Roga (disease) will be the best vaidya. So it is utmost important for any vaidya to have a knowledge about the drug and its utilization before treating any diseases.
The content of this text aims to deliver the essential information concerning the description of properties, uses and various processing of Rasoushadhis along with the explanation of different herbal and herbo mineral preparations. This book is structured based on the new syllabus prescribed by NCISM. This book not only includes the description of Rasashastra and Bhaishajya kalpana told in classical literatures, it also deals with principle behind each pharmaceutical preparations along with various instruments used and modification done in present era. The probable physicochemical changes likely to occur during various processing along with the research updates are also dealt with.
Honest effort have been paved for covering almost all the syllabus point prescribed by NCISM. Each chapter is designed with its content, learning objectives, introduction, explanation, discussion, conclusion along with extended learning, references and model questions. The reader will observe that pharmaceutical methods of preparation have been explained in step wise for easy understanding and pictures of the different pharmaceutical procedures are also added at the end of the book. This will ensure that the reader is able to bridge the information gap between the theory and practical aspects of preparations.
This book is intended to meet the academic needs of undergraduate students and Post graduate scholars of Rasashastra and Bhaishajya kalpana. This is also useful as the referral book for teachers and also for all the Ayurveda physicians who are interested in Ayurveda pharmaceutics.

Health systems around the world are experiencing increased levels of chronic illness, and escalating health care costs. In such a scenario, the patients and health care providers are searching possible alternatives that can provide individualized, personcentred care. The Traditional Medicine and its role in primary health care is pivotal. It has been estimated that, more than 80% of the world's population in over 170 of WHO's 194 Member States use some form of traditional medicine. In many countries, practitioners of traditional medicine have played an important role in treating chronic illnesses. These medicines can offer several benefits for many health conditions, such as access to a wider range of treatments, palliative care in managing the side effects of conventional treatments, improved well-being, and increased patient satisfaction etc.
Ayurveda, the systematically evolved medical science emphasizes on maintaining equilibrium of physical, physiological, psychological, spiritual, and social health of an individual.
To achieve this, the system advocated using processed raw material in the form of herbs, metals, and minerals etc. and converted them into formulations of different categories, ranging from simple powders to the complex metal-based formulations. The classical literature of Ayurveda comprehensively described about various Good (Collection, Manufacturing, Storage, Clinical etc.) Practices that is scattered across the literature. Need of the time is to compile the information systematically and place it in front of the professional community.
In that direction, Dr. Anuroopa H.K. has made a herculean effort in compiling concepts related to the subject, Rasa Shastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana in a systematic manner and crafted it into the form of a book that will become handy to all. This work is expected to provide an insight to assume the in-depth knowledge of ancient seers, particularly in the field of product development. I am sure, that the mastery of the author in the field of Sanskrit and Biochemistry added new thoughts, and dimensions to the classical fundamental principles. Undoubtedly, this volume will inspire the professional community and immensely help the students, teachers and all other scholars of Ayurveda.
