Preface
Tibetan Medicine is a unique medical system that provides holistic health care to the body, to the mind and also to the soul. The Tibetan Physician cures more than the patient’s physical and psychological disorders. The Physician also works to free him from mental ignorance, which is the root of all suffering. Tibetan Medicine defines ignorance as the inability to understand the non-existence of self, and thus the resultant clinging to the ‘self’ or ego.
Tibetan Medicine is a science, an art and also a philosophy. It is a science because its fundamentals are systematically and logically integrated with a basic understanding of body and the mind and their connection to the environment. It is an art because the Tibetan Physician combines diagnostic techniques with love, equanimity, peace and compassion. It is a philosophy because it explains the Buddhist principles of: karma, impermanence, ethics and altruism.
