Ramayana Paaraayanam – Sanskrit-Thanjavur S.Radhakrishna, Sastrigal
The repeated reading of Valmiki’s Ramayana and especially the Sundar Kandam is considered to be sacred. It bestows enormous powers on the reader and listener. It is common to all sects. The Ramayana contain the mystic syllables. It is an exposition of Vedic mantras. It is also studded with the letters of Goyathri Mantra and many other incantations. The reading of certain sargas or cantos in the Sundaram and Yudhakanda has been carried on from the days of yore for some specific advantage and relief apart from the aim of achieving mental solace. The most efficacious portions in the whole of Ramayana are Anguliya Pradaana Sarga (Sundara Kaanda 36th Canto) Sarakaarya Siddhi Sarga (Sundara Kaanda 41st Canto) and Sri Ramapattabhishekha Sarga (Yuddha Kaaanda – 131st Canto). These sargas are devotionally recited by the traditional Pandit Thanjavur S. Radhakrishna Sastrigal.
The Uma Samhita Skanda and a few other puranas praise highly of the repeated reading of the Ramayana. The former text confirms that by the reading even disease that defy treatment will be cured. Longevity will result. Enmity from every quarter will vanish. Family problems will cease. Fear of premature death will disappear. Debts will get liquidated. All undertaking will be successful. Extraordinary powers would descend, and Sri Rama will shower his mercy and kindness.
According to the Pattabisheka Sarga recited in this programme, the man who reads or hears this is freed from sin; he is blessed with children; conquers the earth and dominates his enemies; women give birth to long lived sons; the reader gets long life; overcome all trials and tribulations; is reunited with separated partners; he gets the desired boons.
