Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay: Selected Short Stories: The thirteen short stories in the collection have been handpicked by the editor from different sources. There is fusion and constant telescoping between the past and the present in Sirshendu's writings which is part of his unique, fluid, straightforward and easy-going style. He functions within and beyond a vast canvas that embraces the world of ghosts as much as 8it encompasses the hypothetical existence of aliens in an alien world. His characters are drawn as much from the dreams of a plumber's assistant obsessed with the dream of buying a bicycle, as they are from the quest of a dying young man clinging for a sense of belonging from the parting words of a family member.
Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay is one of the foremost writers of Bengal and has been writing short stories, novels, non-fiction and literature for children for several decades. He won the vidyasagar Award in 1985 for his contribution to children's literature, the Puraskar twice. Manabjamin, a voluminous literary work, fetched him the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1989.
