The world acknowledges that there is no love greater than that of Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is said that he was so besotled by her beauty that he would gaze at her day and night tirelessly..

Beneath the heavily draped window stand the handsome prince and his beautiful wife. He is wearing a turban with zari trimmings, a sarpech, a kalgi and a long plume. His sharp nose is prominent in profile; there is a tender look in his eyes and a smile plays on his lips and he looks overwhelmed with happiness. Shah Jahan wears a silk, jewel-encrusted jama, together with pearl strings. He presents a floral tribute to his beloved, a pink rose, a symbol of eternal love. Mumtaz Mahal, who is beautiful and demure, rests her hand on the prince's shoulder to acknowledge his love for her. She is dressed in a royal attire; her neck is laced with necklaces of varying lengths, large earrings hang down to her neck, her crown of course, is unique, as no one other than her is ever pictured wearing a similar horizontal crown..

The artist presents a picturesque view from beyond the window - a lotus pond, small hills, a pink and blue sky depicting the setting of the sun. The inner view shows marble walls with inlay work and some having latticed work. There is richness of colour and form in this royal picture..
