A deva of great personal beauty, Lord Karttikeya is the presiding deity over war and victory. He is the son of Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati, brother to Lord Ganesha, Devi Lakshmi, and Devi Sarasvati. He stands tall and stately over an upturned lotus pedestal, wielding a spear as tall as Himself. It serves to convey His significance on the battlefield. Having been worshipped since the Vedic era, He has presided over numerous ihalokiya (worldly) va paralokiya (otherworldly) battles. Clad in a short dhoti and ample gold adornments, one cannot help but wonder at the flawless form and grace of Lord Karttikeya.
The murti that you see on this page depicts the dvibhujadhari (the one possessed of two arms) Lord Karttikeya in all His princely splendour. Beneath the lotus pedestal is a wide-set platform engraved with lotus petals. To the right is His mayuravahana (peacock steed), as handsome and graceful as its master. A tall aureole finished with highly stylistic motifs that resemble ancient Indian temple architecture. Installing such a murti in your home or office would be akin to installing Lord Karttikeya with His own temple.
