Lapis lazuli has an opaque light of deep royal blue, which is symbolic of the vastness of the infinite spirit of the heavens. It has been a sacred stone of ancient cultures such as Atlantis, Egypt, the East, and Mexico. It is a symbol of the illumination of the mind, and as such, has a great history. In Egypt, scarabs were carved from it to doubly signify infinity, as the animals and the stone are both symbolic of infinity. Esoteric knowledge was sometimes inscribed on this stone in the form of a talisman or amulet. In fact experts believe that lapis lazuli is the sapphire of ancient times, on which the law given to Moses by god was written, since sapphires were not known in that part of the world and no sapphire could be large enough. The ancients put lapis at par with gold. It was good for the eyes, counteracted evil and the spirits of darkness, and was a cure for melancholy. Many of the treasures of Tutankhamen are gold and lapis lazuli. The Russians used lapis lazuli in building, and Catherine II had several rooms paneled with it.

Lapis lazuli is very important in the foundation of the earth, as it represents absolute light. It touches at the very heart of love and beauty, harmonizing the inner as well as the outer. Lapis lazuli instills high idealism by reaching to build and establish the essence of fellowship and cooperation. The pyrite inclusions - the gold flecks - give it a shine and an unusually positive energy.
