A mandala is a mystic circular diagram, at the center of which resides its presiding deity.

At the center of this hand-crafted pendant from Nepal is a nearly perfect round turquoise. Surrounding it are ten smaller turquoises which are circumscribed by a larger circle made up of eighteen corals. Blue is the color of Akshobya, one of the five transcendent (dhyani) Buddhas and who presides over the direction east. The red color forming the outer most circle represents the delusion of anger. It is believed that by meditating on Akshobya, the delusion of anger gets transformed into mirror-like wisdom.
