This batik is a true example of the artists' tryst with experimentation with colours and shapes. He chooses his colours from the family of burnt sienna and burnt amber, fusing it with stark white. Where shapes are concerned, he works with not only regular squares and ovals but with fluid, enclosed spaces. In his creation, he leaves ample scope for ambiguity. What looks like an elephant's tusks from one angle, look like a fish's tail fin from the other. If at one point, the eye looks like an inverted crescent and a dot, at the other it consists of two concentric circles. The artist has avoided sharp angles; the convex and the concaves flow harmoniously. The colours are muted but not dull.
If the artist had set out to prove the superiority of line and colour over thematic content, then he has been successful.
