Here the monumental image of Durga stands tall with eight arms, holding as many weapons - one in each hand. Though shown fighting the demon Mahisha, with weapons of offence, and even driving her spear into his chest, the goddess has a wholly benign expression and her face is lit with a smile. If the upper half of the kalamkari looks clattered with Durga's numerous arms and weapons, the lower half contains beasts and the demon, overlapping each other. The ferociously virile buffalo wilts before the female force. It seems that Durga has not yet dealt the mortal blow as the demon (not emerging out of the buffalo) is seen standing in a stunned and confused manner, recoiling from her attack.
The artist has used hierarchic scaling of Durga's figure, which towers above all, signifying her superior status. He, however, uses minimum colours, attending to other linear and compositional details.
