It is very difficult for an artist, no matter how conscientiously and rigorously he tries to keep within the limitations imposed upon him to curb his imagination completely. The true artist is imaginative by nature, without which he would be just a draughtsman. Coupled with keen observation and artistic sensibility, his imagination can produce astounding results.

a caterpillar is a very fascinating creature. Because of its small size, microscopic observations become inevitable. This goat-moth caterpillar and the plant is in right proportion, considering the fact that foliage was used in botanical art as mere prop. Here, the caterpillar depicts nature's best sinuous creation, what with graceful turns in its flexible body. On his part, the artist excels in draughtsmanship and colouring. Other than one single leaf of the elm lime, that caterpillar usually feeds on, the stem is bare of leaves evincing that the caterpillar is on the prowl. Small, quick brushstrokes, aided by various colours try to replicate His creation and succeed by artistic standards. A small caterpillar, giving company to its bigger counterpart, will grow up to a different variety of a moth. Difference in colour and structure also show them in different stages of growth.

Calligraphy beyond the border of its picture, not only has primacy over painting but is also accorded sanctity.
