The Rajput chieftain here poses in Mughal style face in full profile and the body in three-quarter profile. His hand rests on the hilt of a long sword; a shield can be partially seen. The headgear is outlandish, decorated with ornaments and a plume. His features are impersonal and a vertical 'tilak' rests on his forehead. The green jama with the floral pattern consists of yards of rich fabric. It reaches down to his ankles and completely conceals the pyjama. The patka around his waist is minutely patterned. That, and the flowing shoulder cloth are colour contrasted with the jama. The footwear is flat that tapers upwards at the toes. Strings of pearls add to the clutter on the upper body. For a man who is accustomed to roughing it out on the battlefield, his limbs are delicate with tapering fingers. A halo around the head seems like a mandatory feature of all the portraits painted then.
