Jayadeva, the author of Gita Govinda wrote ecstatically of the love of Radha and Krishna, in which was imaged the love of the soul for God, personified in Krishna. Many of the paintings based on Gita Govinda gained royal patronage and thus flourished.

In the cool summer breeze, Krishna and Radha sit on a swing under a pavilion and gaze lovingly into each others eyes. The ecstasy of love is depicted here with such delicacy! The eyes of the lovers meet and a world of feeling and tenderness is revealed in them. Krishna, dressed in all royal finery holds his beloved by the waist. Radha responds by placing her delicate hand on his shoulder, communicating love and desire. The facial features of both depict sharp noses, smiling lips and lotus like eyes.

The dome, the arches, the pillars and a few other architectural features speak of Indo-Islamic influence but the treatment of vegetation is purely Pahari. The lotus pond in the foreground with blooming flowers and buds is another typical feature of the Pahari paintings. This masterly drawing with extraordinary sensitive line and festal radiance of colour is enclosed within a narrow border having a vine scroll, further framed by a broader border with sinuous stems, leaves and flowers.
