Ganesha Scripting the Mahabharata

$52

Ganesha, the god of everyman is the most playful deities among all. He is the one who wrote The Mahabharata as Sage Vyasa was dictating him. This large painting shows that Lord Ganesha, sitting in his own comfort on a green and red layered beautiful chowki with his all time favorite motichoor laddoo kept in front of him in a bowl and Mushika (sacred vehicle) sits towards his left. He holds an open book with Om symbol scribbled on it and a peacock feather ink stick to write the Mahabharata; the rear hands hold a mahaparasu (large axe) in the left and a lotus and ankusa (goad) in the right.

The painting shows a bright color combination of his vastra and the blue colored booster behind him, that highlights him more in a dull brown colored background. The intense expression of his eyes appears as if he is concentrating on the narration of Vyasa and the bright rays glowing at the back form a sun shaped halo enhancing his divinity.

The mesmerizing crown adorned with red and green stones compliments the beauteous gold ornaments decked on his body with the Shaivite tilak shining supreme on his forehead. The broken tusk symbolizes his punctuation and dedication in the work, as he broke one of his tusks to continue writing the story.
