The Madhubani artist has portrayed Hanuman as a short-statured deity with an ape's face, and a long tail, wearing a lion cloth and a flowing shoulder cloth. In one hand he holds a mountain, containing the magic herbs called 'Sanjivini buti,' which Hanuman plucked from the Himalayas in order to revive the mortally wounded Lakshmana. The mountain has a symbolic significance i.e., it shows Hanuman's ability to counter any kind of obstacles and difficulties.
Hanuman's body is painted in glistening pink; yellow, red and green are liberally used. The artist uses patterns to beautify the clothes worn by Hanuman and the ornaments that adorn his body. Floral vines fill the empty spaces. Portraying Hanuman's devotion to Rama, the artist paints the border depicting Rama's name in Devanagari script (Hindi).
