The Indian rashichakra (zodiac makeup) has twelve rashis (zodiac signs) as depicted in this simplistic batik composition. Starting from the one in a straight line above the tilak of the sooryamukha (solar face) in the centre, they are vishrubha (the bull), mithuna (the twins), karkat (the crab), simha (the lion), kanya (the maiden), tula (the scales), vrshchika (the scorpion), dhanu (the bow), makar (the crocodile), kumbha (the pot), meena (the fish), and mesha (the ram). The creatures symbolising each of the rashis have been portrayed in little circles that surround the all-important central motif.

On a rough-hewn fabric canvas, the composition has been laid out neatly using the traditional batik technique. Characterised by a relatively clean finish, the solid-coloured dull fuschia background gives the painting an aura of mysterious allure. Framed and hung in your drawing room, this artwork is sure to start many interesting conversations among your guests.
