“Make your eyes fortunate by passionately staring at Sri Krishna as he reclines on a cool bed of moist lotus petals."

These verses from Jayadev's Gita Govinda describe Lord Krishna's splendour while he sleeps on lotus petals. Lotus, a major flower in Hindu religion, is represented in a variety of ways. It represents good fortune. The image of Gopikas offering lotuses to Lord Krishna in this Rajputana style painting is a pious picture of the devine plays that would occur between Krishna and the Gopis. Lord Krishna is pictured standing on the Kalia Naag, whose curse was lifted by Krishna. The dark waters of the Yamuna River provide an appropriate backdrop for the bright green portrayal of the forest and Lord Krishna's Nilotpal (blue lotus) complexion. This painting captures the essence of the deep bond between the Gopis and Lord Krishna, illustrating their devotion and the divine connection they share.
