After the downfall of the Mughal empire, the imperial artists scattered to the other Indian states. A result of which was a stylistic amalgamation of Mughal and local schools. Guler, Bundi, and Kangra were amongst the numerous states to reap the benefit of it.

In this painting, affiliated to the Bundi school, we see a virahini nayika being consoled by and pampered by her sakhis. All the figures are bedecked in fine clothes and rich jewelry. Figures are represented in profile and semi-profile view. Stylistically speaking, the upper part of the body is shorter than the lower part. Their slender bodies have oval plump faces and small chins with arched eyebrows, almond shaped eyes and sharp noses. Some of them are dressed in ghagras and cholis and the others in tight jamas and peshvas. All of them have odhinis covering their heads fully or partially. To enliven a dull evening, a woman musician is singing to the accompaniment of a veena played by another friend. There is a wine casket lying in the foreground. All these things create an atmosphere of luxury and are all the signs of royal dignity and power.

Bundi has the peculiar convention of depicting a building with pavilions on the terrace and this makes an important element of the composition. The landscape is also an essential component with the lotus pond, the hills and the clouds. The artist has apprehended the beauties of nature with great sensibility and dexterity. Delicate drawing, clear gestures and simple composition make up this miniature.
