Length : 10-12 mm
Recognition marks : Reddish Brown; wings are transparent. slightly yellowish, with large apical spots and smaller spots toward the base. Thespecies is typical of the members of this family and shows the 'scorpion' pose.
Habitat : Woodlands.
Distribition : Southeastern United States.
Note : Hangingflies resemble craneflies (order Diptera) and do not have the scorpionlike males. They belong to the family Bittacidae. Their hind legs are raptorial and are used to capture prey.
