Most Mughal paintings used jewel like bright colours, but there were some where the colour orchestration is subtle. This miniature has the refinement of the Mughal style, but instead of a very bright spectrum, we get delicate tonalities.

The artist has successfully captured the ambience of the 'padav' (shelter) at the oasis. The foreground contains the main theme of the painting. Four men from diverse fields sit together, while they wait to continue their journey the next morning. Each man's profession is declared by the possessions lying next to him. As for the present, there seems unity among them.

The background shows some makeshift tents and huts; some caravans awing and some already settled. The water body is clean with clear water amidst the vast stretches of sand. The azure sky has been given an exquisite effect by adding golden colour to it. The artist takes care not to make the colour palette monotonous by dotting the painting with brightly coloured objects.
