The artist has made the image of Buddha based on the canons of the Mathura school. He wears a folded garment covering both the shoulders. The garment is deep red in colour, the folds depicted by bold black lines. The body is shaded in ochre and brown. One of the hands is raised in abhaya mudra and the other holds a palm-leaf look. He has a spiral hair decoration, the hair curling in the right direction, the direction of happiness. The semi-closed eyes, the straight nose and the clearly delineated mouth make the features attractive. The round face also bear an emphatic chin, arched eyebrows over the gentle eyes, and of course, the elongated ears of the Buddha.
Buddha stands on an ornate pedestal of red, blue and black colours criss-crossed with golden lines. The halo is colourful and ornate the lotus petals confirming to the Mathura school of art and its typical style. This description by Kiranjyot
