Rajasthan is a land of brilliant hues. The artists don't eschew it either. The colors used in this painting are so enchanting that the central theme becomes a secondary element. Notwithstanding the tree in the centre of the composition, the orange and red shades of the dying ball of fire rage in the background. The brilliance of the sky is reflected in the water and the artist achieves a shimmering effect. Between the sky and the water is a range of low-rise mountains. The artist, in his attempt not to mar the stupendous sky, works out the leaves in dots and patches and keep them sparse.

The beautiful woman, dressed in regal attire and ornaments, is offering a floral branch to the peacock in order to attract its attention. The bird, however, looks at it disdainfully. The prince, who is captured by the beauty of the woman, observes her from behind the tree. In fact, he is shown in the process of emerging from behind the tree. He is dressed in a long, flared jama, topped with a jacket; a soft pink turban rests on his head.

The foreground is worked in random bushes and flowering plants. The colours, shapes and patterns are realistic and extremely appealing. This happens to be one of the paintings where the background, foreground and the protagonists vie for centrestage.
