Yantra, meaning 'device' or 'instrument' is usually a geometric representation designed to identify the mind of a worshipper with his/her chosen deity. The Madhubani artist attempts at the more formulised yantra in his simple style.

This yantra is dedicated to the goddess Annapurna, associated with Lord Shiva. She is easily recognized as she holds a ladle in her hand. Annapurna assures a constant supply of food and grain. The bindu in the centre is the 'bija' or the seed, within a red triangle. A green circle forms its circumference, touching the three points of the triangle within. This lies on a bed of four wide lotus petals again enclosed in a circle. A common feature in most yantras is the concentric circle of eight lotus petals and sixteen petals, completing the diagram. This structure is enclosed within a square bhupura or the ground plan.

The holy symbol of 'Aum' forms the border, keeping the sanctity of the diagram intact.
