The Cosmic Dance of Creation and Destruction

Immerse yourself in the divine rhythm of existence with this exquisite brass sculpture, depicting Lord Shiva as Nataraja, the cosmic dancer. This handcrafted masterpiece, originating from India, captures the very essence of Shiva's eternal dance – the Tandava – a celestial performance that embodies the cycle of creation, preservation, and destruction of the universe. Each intricate detail, from the swirling locks of hair that fan out like a radiant halo to the powerful posture of his dynamic stance, speaks of millennia of devotion and artistic mastery. ––––––––––

Symbolism in Every Pose

The Nataraja is a profound symbol in Hinduism, representing the supreme consciousness that underlies all phenomena. In this sculpture, Shiva is shown with four arms, each holding significant symbolism. His upper right hand carries a drum (Damaru), which produces the primal sound of creation. His upper left hand holds a flame (Agni), representing destruction, which also purifies and transforms. His lower right hand is in the Abhaya Mudra, a gesture of protection and fearlessness, assuring devotees of his benevolent presence. The lower left hand points towards his raised foot, signifying liberation from the cycle of rebirth. A cobra, a symbol of ego and primal energy, is coiled around his body, showing Shiva's mastery over these forces. He stands triumphantly upon the Apasmara Purusha, a dwarf-like demon representing ignorance and illusion, whom Shiva crushes, signifying the triumph of wisdom and consciousness over darkness. ––––––––––

An Artistic Testament

This sculpture is not merely an object of religious significance but a testament to the enduring art of Indian craftsmanship. Cast in brass, a metal revered for its durability and lustrous quality, the artist has meticulously brought the divine form to life. The patina applied lends a sense of age and reverence, hinting at the stories and myths woven into its creation. The delicate ornamentation, the carefully rendered facial features, and the dynamic flow of the limbs all contribute to a piece that is both visually captivating and spiritually resonant. Owning this Nataraja is like possessing a piece of sacred history, a connection to the ancient traditions and beliefs that continue to inspire millions. It is a powerful statement piece for any home, office, or meditation space, inviting contemplation on the eternal dance of life and the profound power of the divine.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
