An Emblem of Prosperity and Divine Grace

Invite the blessings of wealth, fortune, and auspiciousness into your home with this exquisitely crafted brass Urli. This isn't just a decorative piece; it's a vessel steeped in cultural significance and traditional reverence. The Urli, a shallow, wide-mouthed bowl, has been an integral part of Indian households for centuries, traditionally used for cooking, floating flowers, or as a decorative element. This particular Urli is elevated by the presence of Gaja Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity, depicted seated in divine grace. The depiction of Gaja Lakshmi is particularly potent. She is often shown with elephants, symbolizing strength, royalty, and abundance. In ancient lore, it is believed that Lakshmi manifested herself during the Samudra Manthan, the churning of the cosmic ocean, emerging from the waters with a lotus flower and gold coins, signifying her role as the bestower of material and spiritual riches. Her association with water also highlights her nurturing and life-giving qualities. The elephants, often seen showering her with water from their trunks, represent her supreme power and her ability to bring forth prosperity like a torrential downpour. ––––––––––––––––––

Artistry and Spiritual Resonance

This Urli is a testament to the enduring skill of Indian artisans. Hand-hammered and meticulously detailed from high-quality brass, its surface gleams with a warm, inviting luster that will only deepen with age and use. The intricate carvings and motifs surrounding the central deity evoke the grandeur of Indian temple architecture and the rich tapestry of its artistic heritage. The ornate archway framing Gaja Lakshmi, flanked by elegant peacocks – birds sacred in Hindu mythology, symbolizing beauty, grace, and immortality – further enhances the divine aura of the piece. The traditional use of an Urli in spiritual practices involves filling it with water and floating candles or flower petals. This practice, known as floating divinities or offerings, is believed to appease the gods and create a serene, meditative atmosphere. Placing this Gaja Lakshmi Urli in your living space or puja room serves as a constant reminder of abundance and the divine presence, inviting positive energy and a sense of peace. It’s an ideal addition for Diwali, Navaratri, or any occasion where one seeks to invoke blessings and prosperity. This handmade artifact from India is not merely an object but a conduit of tradition, artistry, and spiritual aspiration.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
