Deepalakshmi is a combination of two very important words; the first one is Deepa, meaning lamp and the second one is Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth. But the Deeplakhsmi is not Goddess Lakshmi holding a lamp but a lady holding a lamp and acting as a medium of bringing light and positive energy into the lives of the bearer. The light eventually leads to growth and inflow of wealth, the attributes associated with Goddess Lakshmi. This brass Deeplakshmi carries the traditional iconography of the tribhanga pose, the breast belt, Makar earrings, an elaborate waist belt, a lotus podium, and two parrots sitting on her shoulders. To increase her beauty, the statue is painted golden in some parts, highlighting the regal jewelry that she wears. This Deeplakshmi is a magnificent piece of art that doubles up as a ritual object that brings the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.

A Beacon of Auspiciousness

This exquisite brass representation captures the essence of Deepalakshmi, the goddess of light and prosperity, a cherished deity in Hindu traditions. Standing at an impressive height, this handmade sculpture is a testament to the rich artistic heritage of India. Deepalakshmi is revered as the bestower of wealth, fortune, and illumination, dispelling darkness and ushering in auspiciousness. Her presence is believed to bring good luck, abundance, and spiritual enlightenment to any space she adorns. The intricate detailing on this statue is a marvel of craftsmanship. The goddess is depicted with serene eyes and a gentle countenance, her posture graceful and dignified. She holds a lamp in her hands, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance and negativity, and the illumination of knowledge and positivity. Adorned with elaborate jewelry, including necklaces, armbands, and a regal headdress, she exudes an aura of divine grace and opulence. The delicate rendering of her garments, with their flowing folds and ornate patterns, further accentuates her celestial beauty.

Mythological Resonance and Cultural Significance

Deepalakshmi is an embodiment of the divine feminine energy, closely associated with Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. In Hindu mythology, she is often depicted during festivals like Diwali, the festival of lights, where diyas (oil lamps) are lit in abundance to welcome her into homes. The act of lighting lamps is a symbolic offering to her, seeking her blessings for a bright and prosperous future. The peacocks perched on her shoulders are considered her vahana (mount) in some traditions, further enhancing her divine stature and beauty, as the peacock itself is a symbol of royalty, splendor, and auspiciousness in Indian culture. The lotus base upon which she stands is another powerful symbol, representing purity, beauty, and spiritual awakening.

An Heirloom of Enduring Beauty

Crafted from high-quality brass, this statue possesses a timeless elegance and durability. The warm metallic sheen of the brass is enhanced by the contrasting patinas, creating a visually striking piece that will age gracefully. Its substantial presence makes it a captivating centerpiece for any altar, puja room, or living space. This Deepalakshmi statue is more than just an artifact; it is a conduit of divine energy, a reminder of the eternal pursuit of light, prosperity, and well-being. Each detail, from the delicate curves of her form to the subtle textures of her adornments, speaks of the artisan's dedication and skill, making this a truly collectible and cherished piece.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
