Oil lamps have long been used for traditional lighting in festivals and inside temples. In the classical style of Mayil Vilakku or the peacock lamp, made in brass, there are two tiers of lamps and a lavishly decorated stem, which grows into a more complex base. The other decoration on the stem is a sacred picture of a group of parrots. They only add to its auspiciousness. It gives a beautiful bright gold glow from brass, suitable for ancient festival-style lights.

The Divine Radiance of the Dual-Layered Brass Lamp

Illuminate your sacred space with this exquisite, handcrafted two-layer ritual lamp, a testament to traditional Indian artistry. Cast from lustrous brass, this lamp stands at an impressive height, designed to be a striking centerpiece for any altar or devotional area. Its dual tiers offer multiple flames, symbolizing the amplified spread of light, knowledge, and spiritual awareness, much like the dawn breaking over the Himalayas. This lamp is more than just a source of light; it's an embodiment of ancient traditions and a conduit for blessings. The intricate detailing speaks of skilled hands that have poured devotion into every curve and contour. The robust brass construction ensures its longevity, making it a treasured heirloom for generations to come. The warm, golden hue of the brass itself is reminiscent of the sun god, Surya, a powerful deity representing light, life, and energy in Hindu mythology.

Guardians of the Sacred Flame

The design of this lamp is rich with symbolism. At the apex, a majestic bird-like creature, possibly a representation of a Garudae, the divine mount of Vishnu, or a Hamsa, the sacred swan associated with the goddess Saraswati, perches proudly. These mythical beings are often depicted as guardians, their presence invoking protection, wisdom, and spiritual purity. Their watchful eyes seem to gaze upon the world, bestowing their divine grace upon those who light the lamp. Flanking the central stem, ornate lion-like mythical creatures, perhaps Yalis, known in South Indian temple architecture as powerful beings that ward off evil, are rendered with striking detail. These formidable guardians add a layer of sanctity and protection to the lamp, ensuring that the sacred flames burn with unhindered divinity. The base of the lamp is adorned with a lotus motif, a symbol of purity, enlightenment, and divine beauty, representing the unfolding of consciousness and the potential for spiritual growth.

A Beacon of Tradition and Devotion

This lamp is designed to hold multiple wicks, allowing for a broader and more sustained illumination. In many Indian traditions, lamps are lit during festivals, pujas, and daily rituals to dispel darkness, both literal and metaphorical. The act of lighting a lamp is believed to invite positive energies, remove obstacles, and bless the home and its inhabitants. It is a gesture of reverence, a prayer offered to the divine, and a celebration of life's continuous cycle. Handmade in India, this lamp carries the heritage of a land where craftsmanship and spirituality are deeply intertwined. Each lamp is a unique creation, reflecting the individual touch of the artisan. Its substantial presence and intricate design make it a perfect addition to any home seeking to embrace the warmth, beauty, and profound spiritual significance of traditional Indian ritual objects. Light it during festivals like Diwali, the festival of lights, or use it in your daily prayers to invite peace, prosperity, and divine blessings into your life.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
