The auspicious and dotting son of Uma-Parvati and Shiva, Lord Ganesha has an integral role in the sacred iconography of Hindu temples, as the guardian of the space and the source of auspiciousness. In this wooden statute which draws inspiration from South Indian temple sculptures, Sri Ganesha appears in a beautiful form, with a red-tined body and a charming expression on his countenance.

Ganesha is in his Chaturbhuja or four-armed form, with a detailed delineation of his curving trunk, graceful placement of hands, and divine eyes. In the balance of elements and representation of attributes, this wooden statue matches the finess of Chola bronzes, with meticulous details and clear carvings.

A bowl of Modaka and Mushaka or rat of Ganesha on his feet adds a devotional aspect to the statue, with the stylized vegetation aureole flanking the Lord. Vegetation in the context of Ganehsa is also a symbol of Kalpavriksha or wish-fulfiling tree, whose divine manifestation is the ever-benevolent elephant god, always fulfilling the desires of his devotees.
