The queen of Shiva’s sanctum, Uma as Bhogashakti represents virtues of passion and desire that are at the core of creation.

The heavenly beauty of Uma in Chola bronzes conveys her status as “Tripurasundari” (the most beautiful woman in three realms).

A towering Jatamukuta with each hair strand exquisitely sculpted gives the statue an arresting appearance, followed by a bare torso of Uma, that allows the viewer to experience her unblemished beauty.

Makara-kundala, shaped like the mythical creature that represents divinity and royalty adorns her ears, along with Talli (the marriage thread), and a simple necklace, followed by the Yajnopavita that marks the sacred wisdom that Uma embodies.

An elaborate waist ornament holds the sinuous dhoti of Uma, highlighting her graceful waist. The details of bronze sculpting that make it marvelous are visible in the finesse of the ornaments and the reverse of the statue. Raising her right leg slightly, supporting her form on her left hand, and raising the right hand in Katakahastha mudra, Uma-Parvati is a wife eager to welcome her beloved in their sacred palace. Beauty in austerity, Bhogashakti is Uma becoming the ideal bride of Shiva-Mahadeva, the greatest ascetic.
