Nataraja is the depiction of Hindu God Shiva, as the Cosmic Dancer. This beautiful artwork, crafted in brass, represents Lord Shiva dancing, holding “Agni (fire)” in his left back hand, symbolising the eternal cycle of life and death. The front hand in Gajahasta (elephant hand) Mudra, signifies inner peace and salvation, offering liberation from illusion. The front right hand with a wrapped snake that is in Abhaya (fear not) Mudra, signifying fearlessness. The back hand holds a Musical instrument, usually a Udukai (Damaru), creating the rhythm of creation and dissolution. With his right foot, Nataraja crushes the dwarf demon Apasmara, representing liberation from illusion.
