Embodiment of Infinite Compassion

This magnificent brass sculpture portrays Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, in his Shadakshari Lokeshvara form. Revered across Tibetan Buddhism, Chenrezig is the earthly embodiment of the Buddha's compassion, the one who watches over all sentient beings with boundless empathy. The name "Shadakshari" refers to the six-syllable mantra, "Om Mani Padme Hum," which is deeply associated with this manifestation. The serene expression, downcast eyes, and gentle smile emanating from the deity's face convey a profound sense of peace and unwavering kindness, inviting the viewer into a state of contemplation and inner calm.

A Symphony of Symbolism and Craftsmanship

The Shadakshari Lokeshvara is depicted with four arms, each holding significant symbolism. The two primary hands are joined in the Anjali Mudra, a gesture of reverence and greeting, pressed together at the heart center. This signifies the union of wisdom and compassion. In his upper right hand, he holds a mala, or prayer beads, representing the ceaseless cycle of compassionate action and the spiritual path. The upper left hand delicately cradles a lotus flower, a symbol of purity and enlightenment, blooming in the muddy waters of samsara, yet remaining untouched by them. The exquisite detailing of the iconography, from the multi-tiered crown adorned with precious stones to the intricate patterns of the flowing garments, speaks to the mastery of the artisans. The rich inlay work, featuring vibrant turquoise and coral-hued stones, not only adds to the visual splendor but also imbues the sculpture with additional layers of spiritual meaning, representing the elements and the preciousness of the teachings.

Rooted in Ancient Traditions

The tradition of creating such powerful representations of Buddhist deities dates back centuries, with artisans drawing inspiration from ancient scriptures and oral traditions. The meticulous process of handcrafting this piece in India ensures that each statue carries the spiritual energy and devotional intent embedded within the tradition. The use of brass, a metal known for its durability and auspicious associations, further enhances the sacred nature of the artwork. The sheer size of this deity, standing at an impressive height, makes it a commanding presence, suitable for placement in a prominent spiritual setting or as a centerpiece for meditation and prayer. It serves as a constant reminder of the omnipresent compassionate gaze of Chenrezig, encouraging practitioners to cultivate their own inner qualities of loving-kindness and wisdom.

A Beacon of Hope and Enlightenment

The mythology surrounding Chenrezig tells of his vow to help all beings achieve enlightenment. It is said that when he saw the suffering of the world, he wept, and his tears formed the lake of purity. The essence of his being is pure compassion, and his mantra, "Om Mani Padme Hum," is considered the heart of all Buddhist teachings. To behold this statue is to connect with that powerful, benevolent energy. It is an invitation to reflect on the nature of suffering and the path to liberation, to embrace empathy in our own lives, and to seek solace in the promise of awakening. This handcrafted brass deity is more than just an object of beauty; it is a sacred artifact, a conduit for divine grace, and a powerful symbol of hope for all those who seek peace and enlightenment.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
